Barry, now in his 60s, lives in one of Maryland's best long-term care facilities. Because his family members live out of state, they contracted with By Their Side to visit him monthly and act as his "sur rogate family." In the course of her regular visits, his By Their Sideadvocate learned that Barry wasn't receiving the medicine the doctor had prescribed for him, and quickly saw to it that he would no longer go a day without it. She also communicated to the family that he checks his mailbox every day but never receives mail. The family quickly responded to relieve Barry's loneliness. Today, Barry is much happier, and his family is "thrilled" that someone is looking out for him. |
